A back breaking Catch report from sabah

It was another good fishing trip from KK and from the title u will know why. Everyone back and arm was aching after battling with the Japanese red, kersi bali and white fish. I was surprised by the average size we bought up. All of them are ard 3-5kg range and they really fight hard and fight all the way from a depth of 120m.

Overall we caught many good eating fish like coral trout, roaster fish, pearl bass ( the boatman said it cost $60/kg),ang kuah etc. However no monster was landed but we lost 3 big ones, one was a cobia at least 12kg lost at the boat side, one to the structure and the last one just took off like a bullet train and we managed to burst the leader after it took 300m of line.

Here is a brief summary of the trip…….

Day 1
I started off with a bang as I landed 2 coral trout ( 2kg and 1kg), after which I was super unlucky as I did not managed to land any decent fish until the next day afternoon. The bite rate was slow and even the table size grouper and kee fish is also not cooperating. Night fishing was as bad. No mack no fish bigger than 2 kg was landed. After 4 am, even the small fish is not biting too.

Day 2
Ard 6am the bite started to come in, we managed to land quite a number of job fish and long nose emperor all ard 2-3kg. But the bite stop after an hour. The boat man keep changing spot but we still only managed a few table size fish.

Then he decided to head to a deeper spot ard 120-130m and there was where we hit the jackpot. The kersi bali was all ard 3-5kg and the bite was quite constant every few min some one will land one. The crew managed to bring up an amberjack ard 9kg. So I decided to try for amberjack so I hooked a table size kersi bali and waited for the bite. The bite came but there was no amberjack but an even bigger kersi bali.

As night fall, we managed to catch a lot of sotong and we use them as bait. Then the real action begin, double and triple hookup was common as the we brought up one after another white fish and Japanese red all ard 3-5kg. They really give us a good run for our money, taking line out constantly thru out the fight. By midnight, everyone don’t dare to put their line down as they are too tire to fight anyone fish. I was still enjoying myself fighting them. But they decided to head back to shore…..SIAN!!!!!!!!

LL no choice have to follow the majority…..

But I was tired too but enjoying every moment cos it is rare chance to encounter such big school of big fish…
